How to low effort Blog
Step 1: Steal
As you can probably tell, the design for this weblog didn’t take much longer than an afternoon. I really like the way it looks, but that is also because I took some heavy “inspiration” from Sebastiano Tronto’s blog, which I think looks very tidy and pleasing to the eyes.

When I was trying to figure out how to ingest new content onto my blog, I found that he had already written a full post on how he does it, including the script he wrote to update his website! Luckily I wrote some pseudo-code on how I would’a done it before finding this post. To my surprise, my attempt was actually pretty close to his script!
My beautiful pseudo-code:
I) update website?
A) If yes:
i) enter ./blog-unprocessed/
ii) check if any directory names do not appear in ./blog.html
a) if there is one that isn’t in there yet:
1) convert it’s contents from markdown format into
html, moving it to ./quiquox.de/blog
2) add generic header and footer
3) add publishing date
4) link it in ./blog.html
5) go to step ii)
b) else go to step iii)
iii) rebuild generic homepages from their primitives,
updating “last updated”
a) if all of them have been rebuilt, go to step II)
B) If no, go to step II
II) Exit
Now that we’ve established that I’m at least as good at programming as this PhD Math guy is, we can go ahead and steal his code. Make sure to edit the script to your liking, maybe go ahead and put “script kiddie” on the blacklist of your micro blogging platform of choice while you’re at it.
Now look at that! I can write my posts on markdown, convert them with a flick of the return key, pull the latest version of my repository on my webserver, and we’re done!
Step 2: Be Appreciative
If you couldn’t tell yet, I wrote this entry because I felt like I needed to credit Sebastiano for his awesome blog technology. Thank you Dr. Tronto.
I actually cannot overstate how excited I am to start maintaining a blog after having subjected myself to years of curating an online presence on In****ram. I find it exhilarating to discover and click through people’s websites, look at their cute designs, learn things as if I’m looking over someone’s shoulder, and so on, and so on.
Step 3: Look at these sick blogs I like
I happened to stumble upon them and they played part in convincing me that I should make a blog also.
- this one is funny!
- this one will come up again soon!
- this one is just really cool!
- this one is adorable!
